Reflection piece

When I first got the brief for this assignment I didn’t like it at all because to me refugee stories have been done to death. I had no idea on where to start which angle to take and who would be my subject

The first step I took was going to the refugee center and to find someone who was willing to talk to me. The guy I found was willing to talk but his story didn’t connect and it also didn’t make since. It was evident to me that this guy was lying to me. I didn’t mind him lying about his identity but when he was lying about his upbringing and his stay here in South African I knew that he was wasting my time and this made me despise the topic even more.

One afternoon while walking in town I ran into an old high school friend from Rwanda and I instantly knew that this was my guy. He was willing to tell me his story and also introduce me to other refugees that were his friends, the only problem was that they did not want to be filmed nor photographed.

This did not bother me much because now I had more than one stories to choose from and to write about. Everybody was willing to tell the truth and they were very comfortable when we spoke without any equipment as they were unsure about my intentions of this interview.

I was happy that finally my assignment was taking a certain direction but my only one problem now was the video clip and the audio clip that I did not have and I also couldn’t find people who were willing to be recorded.

One day on a trip to Umlazi as we were waiting for transportation at Botha Gardens we came across a group of refugees who were protesting against the way that they were being traded here in South Africa and also in their own countries. To my luck they were more than happy to be recorded but the only problem was that they all wanted to talk and be heard at the same time.

This did not bother me at all as I was very delighted that I had found someone.
Overall from this assignment I have learnt that all refugees have a different story and that they are all not the same. At times I would get very angry to see them everywhere in our country and I did not understand their reason of being here. After seeing the little children join the protest and saying that they miss their country of birth even though some of them can hardly remember anything about it, I knew that anything is better than the conditions that they live under here in south Africa and also of the ones that they left back home.
To think that us South Africans that our country and our government for granted is scary because I can never imagine our country with the government turning against us.

I can now easily say that the saying one man’s trash is one man’s garbage, as we see south Africa in another way, other people see it as heaven on earth where peace prevails, where no own people do not trade your well being for power and money.

New Media 3 Class Assesment

AVUSA
With reference to the New Media tools Avusa’s web page is still behind. When I visited the site I found that there were no interactive features for the readers. There was no pool question, video or any other link to similar stories or any other thing. The writer is right when he/she states that Avusa is detangled. This statement also changes once you go into one of Avusa’s newspapers. In this case I went into the times live and I found that they were up to speed with new media as they have correctly packaged their stories with the other forms of telling a story.
Media 24, Mail and Guardian and Independent Newspapers
What I found about these websites and also in their papers is that they are a bit up to date with the constant media changes. In regards to independent newspapers I think that they could step up a bit since they seem to be more traditional then moving on with the times. Since they have such a huge fan base one would expect them to constantly be keeping up with their readers.
Media 24 take the crown for the above statement as it has incorporated all the media tools in their story packages. For their main website to actual publications they have everything from videos, audio clips, pictures, links to other things relating that story and also a social media feed.
With the reception that the writer makes abbot the mail and guardian I that that the writer is a bit undermining this publication as it seems to be up to speed with the evolving media. In my personal opinion I found other story packages better than the ones with belong to publications under the media houses listed above.

Like, seriously did that celeb just tweet that?

Dj Lulo Cafe.

“Ok I’m nominated #MTNSAMA RECORD OF THE YEAR! Cc @Nothende “I wanna love you”, twitted dj Lulo café after his SAMA awards nomination this morning.

Sikhulo Maliwa A.K.A Dj Lulo Café has been nominated in the category of the record of the year for his smash hit ‘I wana love you’ featuring Nothende. Hundreds of his fans have been twitting to congratulate him all morning. Amongst his congratulations was a tweet from socialite miss Uyanda Mbuli, who twitted “@LuloCafe CONGRATULATIONS!

Uyanda Mbuli
Even with the recent spilt from hubby Sisa Mbuli Uyanda still has her head in the game as she was spotted looking ever fabulous whiles leaving a Santon shopping mall. The Diamond Face Couture designer and husband Sisa Mbuli had intended to separate years ago but managed to work things out until now. It’s a pity that the glam queen will now have to spend her days as a single woman but sources say that the split has been rumoured for a long time. Uyanda twitted that she will not be twitting about her divorce as it was personal but her fans twitted back saying that they were behind her all the way.

Dj Tira
In other twitter news there has been a big up roar about the Durban stable Afrotainment boys not being nominated for even one tinny whinny SAMA. Record label owner Dj Tira has twitted saying that “ha ha ha! Big Nuz Serious NOT nominated for #MTNRecordOfTheYear, bangazoba serious lol! Cc @MTNSAMA.
Big Nuz not being nominated came as a huge shock to the boys followers as the won song of the year on the annual count down in to the new year that is hosted by popular radio station Ukhozi  fm. Other people who have not been nominated for this year’s SAMA’S is the hot and very sexy Shota. Dj Tira laughed at Shota for him not being nominated as well by tweeting @shota_AfroRaw not even a single nomination. Now that is painful! Cc @MTNSAMA.

Big ups to the rest of the artistes who have been nominated for this year’s SAMA awards, and for those who have not its back to the recording studio.
 Much love XOXO Ma’NGCOBO.
